Getting dump files
From Levitation
We all need database dumps from Wikipedia and since these are a bit unhandy due to their file sizes, we decided to use BitTorrent to distribute the data. Using BitTorrent has some advantages over direct HTTP downloads from the Wikimedia dump service, like saving the Wikimedia servers bandwidth and preventing corrupt downloads.

Thanks
A big thank you to frapzzt, who is providing server capacity to seed the files.
Getting Dumps
There are various ways to get dumps.
Using our torrent mirrors
- dewiki-20091028-pages-meta-history.xml.bz2
- Latest applicable dump file for dewiki, bzip2. 69.1 GB
- Torrent file
Or if you prefer the smaller, however slower decompressing 7zip:
- dewiki-20091028-pages-meta-history.xml.7z
- Latest applicable dump file for dewiki, 7zip. 6.4 GB
- Torrent file
More dumps can be found in the dump directory at [1]
Directly from Wikimedia Backup Servers
For those that want to use a wiki dump we don't provide yet or want to help creating the torrent files should have a look at the wiki dump list at [2]
Wishlist
There are some Wiki Dumps we'd like to see torrents of:
- enwiki (Simply because of its sheer size, current and previous month's dumps)
- enwikibooks (Counterpart to dewikibooks, latest)
- dewiki (Our roots, current)
- all major languages (coverage, current dumps should do)
- Other major wikis above 10 GB dump size
Please help creating torrents of those once you verified their integrety. For *nixoid systems mktorrent does just fine. Please include the original download address as webseed. For consistency 256K blocks should be used.
