Logo candidates

From Levitation

Jump to: navigation, search

The logo contest is closed. The logo committee will announce the winner as soon as it has come to a decision. Thank you all for your proposals!

Here we collect all the candidates for a Levitation logo.

Scytale announced the contest on November 12. You may send in suggestions until November 23 at noon CET. (Initially, the deadline was November 16, but since Fefe links to the contest we decided to extend it.)

To participate, simply upload your proposal $somewhere and add your recommendation here. You can also upload files to this wiki, however you'll need to create an account for that.

You may add a line or two of explanation to your proposal, if you feel like it. Oh, and please make sure to not use any copyrighted material. (Note from a visitor:: The wikipedia "globe" and other wikimedia logos are copyrighted material!)

Thank you!

  • File:LeviLogo1.png The ring shows it's levitating, just like in magicans shows.
  • File:LeviLogo2.png Same idea but also with the worlds knowledge included.
  • File:LeviLogo3.png The wikipedia globe puzzle is levitating. That's what Levitation is ment to do, isn't it? And it works without the line at the bottom.

  • Maybe no Puzzleteile .. only a L .. i like the wings and the Levitation and all the fancy "web 2.0" mirror stuf .. but maybe a more clean "ipod" like design .. just a letter flying ? ucki

  • I tried to catch the idea with some levitating letters and added a few stereotypes:
    • Book == Knowledge
    • IO == Input/Output
    • Levitation == well, the name of it ;)
    • 01001110 == digital
    • [red/green] == colours of that git.plus.minus

  • Author Comment: I liked the suggestion immediately above this one, which had a book. But I also liked the various riffs on the Wikimedia Sphere. I decided to do a blue marble that was evocative of Earth, with an L in the middle.
    • But: I mostly hacked this together in an hour in GIMP, and I don't consider it done. (I don't like the contrast between a realistic ball and a hastily-sketched book, for starters.) Perhaps someone wants to remix the idea to their own satisfaction? I've left some of the layers separate in the XCF for GIMP-users to modify to their heart's content.)

  • License: I hereby dedicate this image into the public domain: it has no copyright.
  • Author comment: This is a more-finished version of the logo idea immediately above: you see a better sphere and a less hacky book. The text layout, tagline, and dimensions of the PNG are meant to be the similar to the Wikipedia logo -- though I'm not completely sure that I like the extra text. You can easily clear them out via the XCF, though. It might be a nice idea to also put a green plus sign in the top right corner, to represent git's fundamental role: but I'm not entirely sure that this needs doing. (In case I win and someone needs this information for later branding:: the fonts used are URW Chancery for the L in the ball, and URW Palladio for the remaining text. Both are GPL, I believe.)

  • first idea: PNG
  • second idea: PNGSVG (alternate: PNG)
  • Comment: idea one seems not to be so good to me, because the jigsaw pieces "disturb" the logo. so i experimented a bit with the top part and the result is idea 2. i think it shows very good the contrast of the "solid ground" book and some kind of rising "levitating" movement. if you use your fantasy you can see some kind of sunrise in the middle of the image, combining on the one hand both named elements and on the other hand stressing the "new start" character of this poject

  • just a nice lettering without a globe, puzzle, book or any other fancy stuff; but instead the green + and red - signs: they are connecting the i's of "levitation" which have a slightly human shaped outline.

  • Something like IRIX with FSN; May the "Data" just Form an "L"

  • Playing with a sunflower (the mediawiki-logo) would be nice - maybe levitate it by a tornado?
  • A book pulled up by a spider web

  • I thought about a brain with wings, that is leviating. You could play with puzzle tiles or books as well (eg a brain lying on a book with wings?). Or a winged puzzle tile? You see I want to consider the lavitating aspect ;)
  • By: Anonymous
  • I like this logo. How about putting it on a puzzle-tile with wings (without the reflections)?
  • How about a "Clean" L with wings .. maybee on the ground some puzzle pices scatterd ? Ok today no time for fixing some stuff together --Uckikator 17:21, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
